Our Community

We recognise that many of the schemes we deliver have the potential to leave a lasting social or environmental legacy. Similarly, our links with community and voluntary groups, charities and education providers also create opportunities to identify and address important community issues.

Our goal is ultimately to improve people’s lives and choices. Sometimes, we do that through the projects we manage – apprenticeships, business support and so on – and sometimes by other means, such as job fairs, ‘signposting’ services and by supporting community groups and charitable projects.

Addressing social isolation

During the Covid pandemic, many people – particularly single elderly people – found themselves becoming increasingly isolated as a result of lockdown and social distancing requirements. Such isolation can give rise to numerous problems including anxiety and depression, so we devised a volunteer-based befriending service to provide such people with an important lifeline.

A team of multi-lingual volunteers made regular phone call to isolated individuals, sometimes to offer help with important tasks such as shopping or ordering prescriptions, but often just to talk. The project was immensely popular.

Supporting charities and community interest companies

This Covid befriending service was an example of our ongoing support for charities and CICs. Sometimes we will offer administrative support and sometimes members of our team will, themselves, work as volunteers for these organisations.

Community skills-building

On numerous projects, whether delivered directly or in support of third-sector organisations, we have been pleased to offer help with the development of digital skills. We have helped many people across the North West to appreciate the potential benefits of digital technologies and to gain the skills needed to use them properly. In some cases, we have even organised the delivery of digital devices and pre-paid SIM cards to enable people from disadvantaged groups to gain access to online services.

Employability support

One of our single most popular services entails helping people on the road to employment. Even before providing mainstream training and/or work experience opportunities, we’ll often help people with more foundational life skills and functional skills, ranging from literacy and numeracy to help with essential everyday activities such as banking or using public transport. Wherever people are on their journey into work, we will gladly help them on their way.
